Christmas Gifting for Trials Riders

Everything for the rider who thinks dry socks counts as luxury and calls a near-vertical rock a warm-up.

Right then, Christmas is looming, the mince pies are out, and the trials bike is probably still wearing half of last weekend’s mud. If you’ve got a trials rider in your life (or you are the trials rider), here’s a gift guide to make them (or you) grin like they’ve just landed an epic send.

Following on from our gift guides for Kids, Enduro and Adventure riders, all the items here are trials-friendly, properly useful, and available in ranges that cover stocking fillers to “oof, you must really like me” presents.

Proper trials boots

Trials boots are the closest thing trials riders have to superpowers: grip, feel, ankle support, and the confidence to dab without detonating your foot.

We absolutely love the classic look of Gaerne’s leather trials boots. Available in a black and tan leather, including a Gore-Tex® trials boot option, these boots are beautifully made from Italian leather and look the business, especially on a classic trials bike - bring back the the nostalgia of old school events with modern gear. And, right now there are 15% savings across the range!

Trials Helmet Upgrade

If their lid has seen more seasons than it should… sort it. Trials helmets are light, airy, and visibility-first with an open face compared to full face used in Enduro events.

With new lines landing from Airoh helmets in a range of awesome colours, you’ll be able to track your rider across the field - while they benefit from a proper trials shape and great ventilation.

The new Airoh Kombakt helmets are pretty cool too. These helmets come in a range of bold ‘urban-inspired’ colours and offer a 2-in1 style allowing riders to choose whether to wear them ‘naked’ or ‘full’. Not literally of course, but with or without a peak. Add to that the integrated light-smoke sun visor and these really are a product for anyone wanting to make a statement on the course. Especially if you choose gloss pink.

Riding Kit Refresh

Nothing says “I back your hobby” like a fresh jersey/pant combo.

Our range of trials shirts from GasGas and Jitsie are purpose-built for trials movement and durability, and technical fabrics mean you won't feel drenched in sweat by the end of the day.

With a range of prices from just £20, there’s plenty of choice in this category, and for an upgrade (or the really nice list) why not complement a top with a new pair of trials pants.

Gloves They’ll Actually Ride In

Trials gloves are one of those “you never have too many” things because somehow they’re always wet or one's missing.

Fist trials/off-road gloves (like the Chapter series) are grippy, comfy, and they look the business. For a more trials fit and feel, then check out the Hebo Nano Pro / Tech gloves.

For colder rides, the 100% Brisker Xtreme offers an insulated and embossed soft-shell top with an extended cuff for proper coverage.

Pro tip: if you don’t know size, sneak a look at the pair they use most (if you can find them) and match it.

Waterproof Bits for Winter Graft

UK winter trials is basically a relationship with water. Keep them riding instead of shivering with these Hebo waterproof socks. While socks may sound boring, they feels amazing on a freezing Sunday and there's Santa patterns in sight.

For a little extra warmth up top, then this waterproof jacket from Hebo will be welcome at the end of the day when it comes to bundling their bike back in the van.

Tool bags & trail-side essentials

Trials riders love practical kit they can strap to the bike and forget about and this Hebo rear tool bag is just the job. There’s also this option from Apico which can be attached directly to the rear fender of the bike.

If you’re not sure what to get…

Go for something consumable or universal:

  • Gloves
  • Waterproof socks
  • Tool bag

You can’t really miss with any of these, and you’ll look like you know the sport (even if you’re still not sure what a “no-stop” is).

Final nudge from Triple D HQ

Triple D are a family-run KTM and GasGas dealer and proper trials people. But we don't look down on those starting out or looking for advice, so if you want to sanity-check sizing or pick something for a particular rider/bike, give us a shout and we’ll steer you in the right direction.
