The second instalment of the Red Bull Tyne Ride took over Newcastle’s iconic Quayside this past weekend, with the legendary Tyne Bridge providing a fitting backdrop to one of the most unique races on the enduro calendar. Thousands of fans packed the pavements to cheer on some of the world’s best riders as they went head-to-head on a custom-built dual lane race track packed with jumps, drops, logs and rock gardens.
With the Hard Enduro World Championship season mid-break, fans were treated to a stacked line-up of international stars. Local hero Billy Bolt and rival Manuel Lettenbichler were joined by elite riders including Mitch Brightmore, Matty Green, Eddie Karlsson, and many more. The knockout format produced intense racing throughout the afternoon, as each duel was fought best-of-three to secure progression into the next round.
Despite mixed forecasts, the weather held out to ensure the crowds were entertained as the riders launched skyward literally in front of shops and cafe's along the pavements beneath the famous Tyne bridge.
For Triple D Motorsport, Red Bull Tyne Ride provided an exciting stage for our pro team riders Burts Crayston and Dan Peace. Burts was back in The Toon for the second time, with Peace getting his first look at this urban jungle of a course. Both riders enjoyed joint practice sessions early in the day warming up for the final in the afternoon.
instagram.com/newcastlene1Burts reignited his old rivalry with Will Hoare, the former World Junior Super Enduro Champion, in a thrilling heat. The duel was one of the day’s standout battles with huge jumps and edgy moves through the log matrix and rock gardens.
Meanwhile, Peace faced a stiff challenge in the shape of US star Cody Webb. Webb is three-time AMA Super Endurocross champion, FIM Super-Enduro World Champion and six-time X Games medalist, among other achievements.
Unfortunately both Triple D riders were beaten in the last 16 round, with Hoare taken out in the next round by Webb who eventually succumbed to Jonny Walker in the semis.
Despite the early exits no-one wanted, racing head to head as well as being down in the pits alongside the sports biggest names is testament to how these lads have developed on the professional circuit over recent months.

In front of his hometown fans, Bolt delivered a masterclass in racing skill and composure, taking the top step of the podium to rousing cheers from the local crowds.

© Red BullWhile some may argue the draw was tough on the younger British talents, the Red Bull Tyne Ride is an incredible event to bring our sport to the masses. It's totally free to attend and allows riders to build their experience under pressure and in front of big crowds.
Having 2 of the Triple D Race Team invited to such a prominent event is great for the sport and of course, pushes our riders to expand their skills and profile in a totally different environment with big media support.
The Red Bull Tyne Ride has once again proven itself as a highlight in the 'road-off-road' calendar, so look out for dates being announced for 2026 and we'll hopefully see you back in The Toon next year.
Burts heads off to Italy this week for the World Extreme Round. Currently in 2nd place in the Junior Championships, we've high hopes for a podium step this weekend.
